SASSA Balance Check Online – How to See If Your R370 Was Paid

A SASSA balance check online usually means one simple question: has my SRD R370 grant actually been paid? The honest answer starts with a correction, because SASSA does not run a separate live wallet where you can watch a balance rise and fall. What you can check online is whether your month was approved and given a Payday, and then whether the money reached your bank account. Those are two different checks, and confusing them is why so many people stare at a screen that says Approved and still wonder where the money is. This guide separates the two, so you check the right place for the right answer.

What a balance check can and cannot show

The official SRD status portal at srd.sassa.gov.za/sc19/status shows your result for a month: Approved, Pending, Declined, and the other statuses this site explains. When a month is approved, a Payday appears for it, and that Payday is the closest thing to a payment confirmation SASSA gives you online. It does not show a running balance, and it does not show money moving through your bank. Your bank account is the only place that shows the R370 itself, through your bank’s app, online banking, an ATM, or a statement. Anyone promising a single page that shows your SASSA balance in real time is selling something SASSA does not provide, and any site that asks for your bank login details to show it is one to leave immediately.

First check: the status portal and your Payday

Start at srd.sassa.gov.za/sc19/status with your ID number and the cellphone number from your application. Open the month you are asking about and look for two things: that it says Approved, and that a Payday is shown. An Approved result without a Payday yet means approval and payment are still separate steps, and the Payday is assigned after approval, so the money cannot be in your account before it appears. If the month is still Pending, there is no payment to look for yet, and our guide to what Pending means and how long it usually takes explains that wait. If the month says Approved and a Payday is shown, move to the second check, because the portal has now done all it can do for you.

Two details matter here. Check the exact month, not just the latest result, because a payment you are waiting for belongs to a specific month. And make sure the phone number on record is still yours, because the portal uses the application number for verification; if it changed, our guide to changing your SASSA phone number comes first.

Second check: your bank account

Once a Payday is shown, the question moves from SASSA to your bank. Open your bank’s app or online banking and look at recent deposits for the month in question, or check a mini-statement or ATM balance if you bank without a smartphone. The deposit is the SRD payment for that month, and its arrival can lag the Payday itself, because banks process payments on their own schedules and SASSA does not issue a fixed SRD payment date for everyone. Give the Payday a fair chance to clear before concluding anything is missing, and check the account SASSA actually has on record, not a second account you opened later. If the account on record changed, closed, or was never in your own name, the payment has nowhere reliable to land, and our guide to changing your banking details explains how to correct it, including the 7–10 working day verification wait that follows a change.

One more distinction matters: your bank balance is not your grant balance. The R370 lands among your other money, and SASSA does not keep a separate pot that grows when a payment is missed. A month that was declined or never approved has no R370 waiting anywhere, and a month that was approved but unpaid is a payment problem for that month, not an amount stored for later. Our guide to what Approved means and what happens next walks through that gap between approval and money in detail.

What about WhatsApp, USSD and the Moya App?

These channels are useful for checking your status, not your balance. Sending SASSA on WhatsApp to 082 046 8553, dialling *134*7737#, or using the Moya App can tell you how a month stands, which is a good first step when you have no data or no computer. None of them shows your bank balance, and none of them can move a payment faster. Use them to confirm the status, then use your bank to confirm the money. If a WhatsApp number other than the official one offers to check your balance for a fee, treat it as a scam: the official channels are free, and SASSA never charges to show you a result.

Reading the two results together

Put the portal result and the bank result side by side and the picture is usually clear. Approved with a Payday, and R370 in the bank, means that month is done. Approved with a Payday but nothing in the bank yet usually means the payment is still clearing, or it went to an account you are not checking, so verify the account on record before assuming a problem. Approved without a Payday means payment has not been scheduled yet, and no bank check can change that. Pending means no payment exists to find. Declined means the month was not approved at all, and the next step is the appeal route for that month, not a balance hunt. Bank Details Pending, the status the homepage describes when no valid bank details are held, means the payment is blocked at the details stage, and fixing the details comes before any balance question.

If the money is not there

Work in order, and resist the urge to start over. Confirm the month, confirm it is Approved with a Payday, and confirm you checked the account SASSA holds. If a recent banking change is still inside its verification window, wait that window out, because a payment cannot be released to unverified details. If the Payday has passed and the account is right, call the SASSA helpline on 0800 60 10 11, Monday to Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with your ID number, the month, and the Payday in front of you. Do not pay anyone who offers to release the money, and do not share your bank login details with any balance-check site. A genuine payment problem is solved through SASSA and your bank, never through a third party who charges for the privilege.

Frequently asked questions

Can I check my SASSA balance with my ID number online? Your ID number lets you check your SRD status and Payday on the official portal, but your actual money can only be seen in your bank account. No official page shows a SASSA balance from an ID number alone.

Does SASSA send an SMS when the money is paid? Do not rely on an SMS as proof of payment. The reliable proof is the Payday on the portal plus the deposit in your bank account, and the portal is the record SASSA itself keeps.

My status is Approved but my bank shows nothing. Is the money lost? Not necessarily. Approval and payment are separate steps, banks clear payments on their own schedules, and a payment can also be held up by bank details that need correcting. Work through the month, the Payday and the account on record before concluding anything is lost.

Can I check the balance on WhatsApp? WhatsApp to 082 046 8553 can help you check your status, but it cannot show your bank balance. Use it for the status, and your bank’s app, online banking or ATM for the money.

Why does my friend’s payment arrive on a different day? SASSA does not issue one fixed SRD payment date for everyone, because the schedule depends on verification and on each person’s Payday. Comparing dates with other beneficiaries will not tell you when yours is due.

A balance check done properly is a two-minute routine: portal for the Payday, bank for the money, and the right month in both places. Keep the two checks separate, keep your details current, and you will rarely be left wondering where a payment went.
